How to move to Canada?
The Canadian government has created different programs promoting immigration into the country. Regardless of the program, the aim of the immigration process for you is to obtain a permanent residence visa that entitles you to live and work in Canada as an employer, entrepreneur, or as a self-employed person.
All programs are based on a selection process that examines your professional and work life, such as your command of English or French, your level of educational study, your work experience, age, health condition, criminal record, etc. Each program has its advantages and disadvantages, as each of them places more emphasis on some of the requirements than others because they were created for different purposes.
What are the immigration programs to Canada and what does each consist in?
The programs are:
- Skilled Worker- This refers to the people who have a commercial, technical and/or a bachelor degree; a high command of English and/or French, and work experience.
- Investor- These are people who can account for the ownership of a business or who have been managers of a company for at least 5 years. They should boast personal assets of at least 800 thousand Canadian dollars and must be willing to invest 50% of such amount in Canada.
- Entrepreneur- These are people with experience in business administration so as to own or manage a business in Canada and thus foster employment in the country. They need to account for personal assets of 300 thousand Canadian dollars.
- Sponsored or co-signed family-class sponsorship- This was created with the aim of reuniting Canadian families with any relatives living abroad. If your partner, parents, or grandparents reside in Canada or if your legitimate or adopted children, siblings, cousins, or grandchildren are underage, single, and parentless in Canada, the immigration procedure can be carried out through them.
- Quebec- This French province in Canada has a different culture and language, and therefore its programs vary likewise. Such programs are addressed to professionals who speak and understand French.
If I don’t meet the requirements for any of the immigration programs above, what other options do I have?
There are three other ways of immigrating to Canada: opening a Subsidiary Enterprise, as a Temporary Worker, and through a Study Permit.
This is for people who have already incorporated a business legally in Mexico or in the U.S. that has been running for at least a year. Thus, they have the possibility of opening a subsidiary in Canada, i.e., an enterprise controlled by their original business. If this is your case, the enterprise can be in any commercial line.
This immigration strategy enables you, your family, or even some of your key employees and their families to immigrate to Canada right away.
Every year, Canada opens its doors to approximately 90 thousand temporary workers. It is necessary to obtain a work permit in order to work in Canada, and the procedure for getting it depends on the type of work you are to perform there.
As our client, all you need is a job offer from an employer in Canada. This offer must be a contract or a letter from the employer that specifies the name of the company or individual offering the job, the details of the post (title, tasks, wages, and employment duration), and the abilities that are required for its performance.
Once you are in possession of the letter or contract, we take the necessary steps to ensure the issuing of the work permit by the Canadian government.
Arriving in Canada as a temporary worker has the additional possibility, under certain circumstances, of turning a temporary work permit into a permanent residence. If this is of interest to you, we can provide you with advice so that you may benefit from this opportunity.
In order to attend courses or programs in Canada over a period longer than six months, it is necessary to obtain a study permit. This does not apply to academic programs of a shorter duration, for which a tourist visa will suffice.
If you wish to improve your English or French knowledge or enroll in a Canadian educational institution, this is the most suitable way of settling temporarily in Canada.
How long will it take to process my case?
The time depends on the way you choose to move to Canada. For example, if you find a temporary or permanent job offer in Canada, or if you intend to open a subsidiary of your enterprise, the administrative procedure may just take a few days.
Under the Skilled Worker program or if you are an entrepreneur or an investor, the duration of the process depends on the immigration program and the country from which the application was requested.
What are the immigration costs?
The costs vary and involve the payment of some fees charged by the Canadian government, as well as our fees, which differ depending on the case and the program that you are immigrating under. The minimum amount to carry out the procedure is about 3 thousand Canadian dollars, but this figure may vary depending on the specific characteristics of each case.
